Play Holdem’ Poker

Want to play holdem? Well If you’re interested in learning how to play poker today, the odds are pretty good that Texas hold ‘em is what intrigued you in the first place. Hold ‘em versions of poker are by far the most popular today, having enjoyed an incredible rise in exposure due to being a part of the World Series of Poker’s Main Event and also due to the fact that it is available for play on most web sites.

Hold ‘em poker is a community card version of the game. In other words, in any variation of hold ’em poker, players will make a hand with some combination of hole cards (cards that only they can see and community cards, which are dealt out in rounds face up in the center of the table.

As mentioned above, Texas hold ‘em is the most popular version of all the poker variants today, and that includes other community card variants. Texas hold ‘em is played with a maximum of seven cards. Two cards are dealt to each player (up to eight can play) in the beginning, and it is these two cards that make up the base of a player’s hand. There are many different strategies applied as to which hole cards are good to play on and which should lead to an automatic fold, but there is not room enough here to adequately cover such strategy.

There is an initial round of betting before the first three cards are dealt face up. These three cards are known as the flop, and their play is followed by another round of betting. The next community card revealed is the turn, and the last is the river. Players use their hole cards and the community cards in any combination to make the best hand.

Omaha hold ‘em is another variation of hold ‘em, but in this version of poker, players must use a specific combination of cards from their hand and from the community cards to make up the winning hand (or hands, if you are playing high low). The main difference in Omaha is that instead of receiving two cards at the beginning, each player receives four. The kicker is that players must use two of their hole cards and three of the community cards in order to make the best hand.

It’s my personal opinion that when you play no limit Texas hold ‘em you’re playing the more popular hold ‘em variant because it allows a certain amount of skill to be applied to the game, without a lot of additional thought; truly the Every Person variant of poker. Omaha, on the other hand, and particularly hi-lo variants, require a little bit more knowledge in terms of statistics and concentration.

Other ways to play holdem such as Irish Hold em’, Pinapple and Crazy Pineapple are games that may not require as much skill as straight holdem poker.
